BATERIA FORMATION / REHEARSAL STRUCTURE

MATERIAL FOR SYDNEY ENCONTRO 2024
Like always, we have a huge amount of work to do, to create an awesome show with only a relatively short amount of rehearsal time. Please make sure you come prepared, so we can spend our time polishing things off, and enjoying our time together 😊
For this show our performance will be in two parts. The first is a Bateria show, with just drums playing through a number of bossas. If you've played with us before you should be familiar with our material. It's all listed below for you to refresh/learn before the rehearsal. There are seperate videos for Tamborim, Chocalho, Timbal, Agogô & Repique de bossa as well as videos with the whole bateria. Whatever you're playing, please spend some time to get your head around the relevant material.
The second part of the show we will be playing a classic samba with singers, cavaco and violão. There are some more intricate parts for both the tamborins and the chocalhos to learn BEFORE THE REHEARSAL 😘😘 (even if you've learned this song before, maybe this is different, so please check)
There is also a simple part 2 for the caixas/repiques. Videos are below for you to learn from. Everyone, no matter what instrument you play, should be familiar with the song before you arrive. Bonus points if you can sing along 😉

This is the UDC 4 bell agogô line, to be played in the main part of the samba. In section 2 the bell will stop as a default.

CAIXA
Partido Alto caixa pattern played by a dreamboat 💖💖💖
This is the preferred pattern/technique for our caixa section - If you want to play down on a strap you can, but just play caixa reta (basic samba swing).
How to play Em Cima!
This delightful fella has nothing to do with the Cacatuas, however this is a great lesson broken down slowly on how to play. The first part of the video is explaining how to hold your drum and stick, then from 12:50 he begins to demonstrate the pattern clearly and slowly. We'd encourage playing em cima as much as possible. If you play caixa, or even if you don't, invest 25 minutes of your life on this. He totally gets it 😀
